Biography

Lead Pastor at firstFAMILY Church

I was born in Paris, Tennessee (home of the World's Biggest Fish Fry) but shortly after I was born, my father joined the US Air Force and the family began a journey that took us to numerous states and new homes. I spent his childhood in Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, Ohio and Texas.

It was as an elementary school student in Montgomery, Alabama, while my family were members of Trinity Baptist Church, that I responded to the Gospel and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. It was in Mrs. Brown's Sunday School class, through the high-tech wonder of "flannel graph" that the clarity of God's rescue story was revealed. Shortly, thereafter, I was baptized.

I am a graduate of the University of North Texas and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Graduating in 1993, I was then called to serve as Student Pastor at First Baptist Church of Orange Park.

I served on the pastoral staff of FBCOP and was called to serve as Lead Pastor in 2005. I have led First Baptist as the church has engaged the community through school partnerships, planted and supported church plants throughout the world, initiated an orphan care emphasis leading families to adopt, foster and advocate for the orphan and develop a network of ministries under the "firstFAMILY" banner focused on honoring God, proclaiming the Gospel and engaging the world for God's sake.

I am currently studying at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as I works toward completion of my doctorate. I serve on the State Board of Missions for the Florida Baptist Convention and the Leadership Team for the Jacksonville Baptist Association. I am founder of Battle Ready Men's Ministry and leader of Real Stuff Clubs, a mentoring initiative for teenagers.

My wife, Tracy and I have been married since 1989 and have two children.
